THE PROCESS
FROM ROOT TO ROOM
Every TERA FERA piece travels a long road before reaching your home. A road that begins not in a workshop, but in a forest — and one that we walk ourselves, from beginning to end.
THE FOREST — JAVA, INDONESIA
Deep in the forests of Java, ancient teak trees complete their natural life cycle and fall to the earth. Their trunks are reclaimed by local communities, but their roots — vast, intricate networks shaped by decades of growth — are left behind. Forgotten.
We don't cut. We don't harvest. We receive what nature has already released.
Each root system is hand-selected for its character, its movement, its singular story.
THE ATELIER — JEPARA, CENTRAL JAVA
The work then moves to Jepara — a town widely regarded as the heart of Indonesian teak artistry, where the craft of woodworking has been passed down for generations.
In the atelier of our partner workshop in Tahunan, Jepara, master artisans take over. Many learned their craft from their fathers and grandfathers — a lineage of patience and precision built over centuries.
We travel to Jepara in person. We choose the roots. We witness the work as it unfolds.
Before a single cut is made, the wood is studied for days. Read like marble. Understood. Only then does the work begin.
Every curve is intentional. Every surface is hand-finished. The proprietary finishes — honey oil, charred Shou Sugi Ban, raw natural — are each chosen to honor the wood's individual character.
What emerges is not manufactured. It is revealed.
THE CURATION — CASABLANCA
Once completed, every piece travels by sea to our facility in Casablanca, where it is received, inspected, and stored under our care.
This is where the collection takes its final shape. Each piece is personally examined by our founder. Some are kept. Others are not.
The ones we accept are the ones that hold their own — pieces with presence, with silence, with weight. This final selection is what defines TERA FERA.
THE JOURNEY — TO YOU
From Casablanca, each piece is hand-crated, padded, and shipped worldwide with white-glove delivery. From the forest floor of Java to your living room, every step is intentional — and every step is witnessed.
A TERA FERA piece is not produced. It is composed — by nature, by hands, by time.
Lead time: 8-12 weeks.
